Introduction
For over two decades Aberford has been renowned for stunning, hand built kitchens. Created using our truly original thinking, we don’t use set styles or limit our clients to a restricted range of materials, colours or appliances.
 |
How we operate is unique. We pride ourselves on being design led; no two projects are ever the same. By absorbing the architectural features of your home, we design to your individual requirements. Your finished kitchen will always be highly personalised.
Commissions are undertaken throughout the British Isles, managed from our headquarters near Leeds, each one subject to the same exceptional level of service. |
We hope that we have intrigued you.
To discover more about us begin either by giving us a call or visiting our showroom at Aberford Interiors in Yorkshire.
First steps
We usually commence with a visit by Patrick Porter or Carol Robinson, our two design directors. We view your home with a designers’ eye, noting the layout and getting a feel for the ambiance. During that time we will take measurements, may photograph any interesting features and make sketches. We will explain how we project manage our part of the contract and relate to others involved, such as builders, fitters and flooring specialists. Above all, we will listen to all your requirements and how the room needs to work for you. |
|
After all it’s your home!
Conception
The next stage is to produce a floor plan and elevation drawings; with these you will be able to see exactly what we propose.
 |
- A second meeting is arranged, where we sit with you and invite you to comment on our initial drawings.
- We analyse the lay out with you in depth, adding or taking away items if necessary and talking over materials and finishes. Choice of door style, type of work surfaces and the all‑important design details will be major part of this discussion.
- At this point we also provide you with an accurate estimate of cost.
- Now the project is really
underway.

Build and Installation
Together we set an installation date. We then conduct a comprehensive technical survey at your home to double-check all measurements and ensure that all aspects of the installation will run smoothly.
The workshop can now commence to build your kitchen. Much of this is done by hand and is individual to you and so takes a little longer than when buying a mass produced product.
 |
The results are well worth it!
If you have chosen a hardwood kitchen it is delivered ready to install. However, many of our kitchens are hand painted and they arrive primed to be finished by a decorative artist – once it has been fitted, you will have the fun of deciding on a colour and watching as the finishing process brings the furniture to life.
All our craftsmen are specialists in the installation of bespoke kitchens and their skill and attention to |
| detail is extraordinary. Like you they want the finished product to provide many years of pleasure and good service. |
Signing off
Once we have completed the installation to our satisfaction, all appliances are working and the final touches have been completed, we make a comprehensive inspection to make sure that absolutely nothing has been missed and that you are completely satisfied. Only then will we request a settlement payment.
We will probably ask your permission to take photographs to show to other prospective clients in the same way we did for you.

| Finally you will be presented with a bottle of champagne to toast your new kitchen! |
Technical Stuff
The majority of kitchen furniture, including some very expensive ranges, is largely made out of chipboard or MDF. You will not find such materials in an Aberford kitchen. We believe in the age-old principle of putting metal fixings into wood, not sawdust. In five years or less, you will not be faced with a room full of sagging doors and wobbly drawers.
 |
The cabinet without the fronts, called the carcass, may be made from a variety of materials. The most popular is birch plywood or solid red pine. The drawer boxes are dovetailed, made of solid wood and are mounted on self-parking runners.
All our doors and drawer fronts are “in frame” on butt hinges, similar to an internal house door. They look better than “lay-on” face mounted doors and drawers and they remain aligned. |
In short, not only are we creating a product with the best aesthetics, we are creating one which is cost-effective and built using real engineering principles and which will last and last, outliving cheaper alternatives many times over.
